doughnuts and dystopian films

Tonight was the opening of the North East's first Krispy Kreme, and with my little Picanto going back to Kia on Friday, (sad times), I figured there was no better excuse than to take it on a little trip out!

It's a brand new development at the MetroOasis! You might remember that I got sent a sample box of doughnuts back here, so I was pretty excited about tonight. When I first got there, I was greeted by the friendly staff and took a tour behind the scenes along with the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Malcom Brain, and a couple of other guests.

During the tour, we were shown all of the machinery which pumps out the doughnut batter, but what I really found impressive was the fact that all of their doughnuts are still boxed by hand! That means you never get any imperfections, you always get a perfect doughnut in every box. At the end of the tour we decorated our own doughnuts with chocolate and sprinkles and given a hot original glaze. Katy came along too with her colleague, Emma and we had fun sampling the different flavours.

So now I've explained the donut bit of the title, let me explain the dystopia bit.. I've literally just got in from seeing the remake of Total Recall, and can I just say: wow. I'm already a massive fan of dystopian stories (whether it's films or novels), so I already kinda knew that I'd love it! And I'm a little ashamed to admit that I don't think I've ever even watched the original version.. guess I'll need to add it to my film list! Has anyone been to see it yet?

  2. I will go out and buy me some original glazed KK. I am not so sure if having a branch near where I am is a good thing or a bad thing.

  5. A behind the scenes tour? At Krispy Kreme? Where you got to make your own donuts??? This pretty much sounds like my version of heaven. I'm practically salivating just looking at the photos!
