Jubilee fever is officially here. Not that it wasn’t really before. It was, it was just a little bit easier to ignore. Now it’s been jumped on by confectioners from Kipling to Cadbury’s, you can’t even buy a bar of dairy milk without hearing about it. I kind of love the novelty of everything, but it’s very easy to move from kitsch and quirky into just plain tacky. And then on my way to work the other morning I was greeted by this…
The mug from the Silver Jubilee is a charity shop find, and despite it verging on tackiness (it is Royal family memorabilia after all), I think I actually like it. By pure coincidence I then spotted this article, on Ideas Tap. I think I have similar opinions to Kirsty about the monarchy. I mean I like the idea of having the Royal family but I’m not sure what purpose they serve to our society now. That being said, I can’t help being a little being fascinated by them… especially (along with the rest of the UK) Kate Middleton. Anyway, despite my general confusion about the Royals, I am enjoying the kitsch decorations, and of course the red, white & blue cupcakes.. I’ve even volunteered to help out at the nursery on Wednesday to help with the jubilee party they’re throwing next week for the kids before half term. I’m mainly in it for the cupcakes..
ah, well, in my humble opinion…kitschy things are usually the best things. i adore the mug! it's alright to be fascinated by them…this mug can be your vehicle for vicarious thrills — no shame, sister, no shame.

Love the street art!
I enjoyed your commentary for this post and I quite agree. Everybody is SOMEBODY. We are all important. I recently purchased the cutest mug (to drink my daily detox tea) from TJ Maxx.
