Floral dresses for dreary days

Some dresses are made to be twirled in.
I know that sounds a slightly twee and is a pretty self-indulgent statement. But this is a lifestyle blog, and that in itself is about as self-indulgent as you can get. And you know what I mean, don’t you? Those dresses that make you feel like a little girl again.

In my last post I mentioned my recent obsession with midi length dresses and that it had been partly caused by a new dress. More specifically, this spring bloom flared shirt dress c/o the lovely people at French Connection. Unfortunately, (and in typical fashion for the UK), the weather has been pretty hit or miss so I haven’t had much of a chance to wear it. Made from a light cotton lawn, it’s the perfect mixture of thin airy fabric and a fuller skirt. Like I mentioned in my last post, it’s a little longer than dresses I usually go for, and although I’m still considering hemming it a little, I have to admit the length is growing on me. I blame it on my new Betty Draper obsession. Now I just need the sunshine to stick around long enough for me to be able to wear it!

No – don't hem it. It's lovely as it is and it is such a gorgeous print! Lucky you.

aww thanks! I'm not totally convinced that I shouldn't just take it up a couple inches… I just think it would suit me a lot better if it came above the knee. I'm hanging fire before I make any drastic decisions though! x

I think it's what you get used to. The dress looks like it's a lovely length and designed to be that length. But I think you are used to the slightly shorter skirts (a little less prim and a whole lot more fun). Go with your gut instinct because that way you will get more wear out of it. Just think – it would be mid-calf on me :o(
