As I’ve gotten older, I feel a lot more comfortable in my style. I’ve pretty much figured out what kind of shapes suit me and what I like. And I’ve found myself shy away from buying trend-led pieces. Like a lot of people my age, and a lot of bloggers lately, I’ve started to try and stick to buying the kind of staples that will stand the test of time. Not just in terms of style but also quality. I’m pretty sentimental when it comes to my wardrobe and I get very much attached to its contents. So I’m always gutted when my favourite something or other needs retiring because it’s looking past its best and a little too worn out.

One thing I’ve found myself bulk buying over the last few years is ballet pumps. They’re practical and they’re comfortable and they go with everything. But I’ve been sucked into getting those £16 ones from Topshop that seem to last five minutes and then they’re falling apart. That is until I recently came to replace a pair and realised they’d stopped making them in leather and switched to PU! I know it’s personal choice but I’m pretty against plastic when it comes to my shoes and bags, mainly because things don’t seem to last half as long. Since I refuse switch to PU pumps, I’ve been on the look out for some decent ones and had my eye on the likes of Repetto and French Sole. Both of which specialise in beautifully made ballet pumps.. although at a pretty premium price tag. That was until Surfdome got in touch. After agreeing to a product review and thinking I’d just end up ordering a pair of Cheap Monday jeans, I was over the moon to find they stocked French Sole (and for a lot less than RRP if you’re fancying yourself a pair!)

After spending a while mulling over neutral coloured pairs, I finally settled on these little coral beauties complete with a red trim. I’m not the biggest fan of red in general, but for some reason I’ve always had a thing for red ballet pumps. I was hoping to find more of a pillar box colour but I think the red trim on these kind of creates an illusion that they’re a little darker than what they are. Plus because they’re somewhere in between red and colour, I figured they’d go with a lot. Made from butter soft leather and with a fairly sturdy sole on them (forgive the pun), I’m hoping these will last me a little longer than my usual Topshop ones!

Those look so lovely and great quality. I tend to buy cheaper shoes and they really don't last long at all!

I've literally been saying this recently about dropping the Topshop ballet pumps that you need to replace every few months and actually investing a bit in my flat shoes as they're what I wear day in day out. These ones are beautiful and I love how low cut they are at the front!

I've heard some great things about French Sole! I haven't had the pleasure to own a pair yet though. Maybe in 2014 😉 Yours are very pretty by the way xx
