French Connection, floral dresses and feeling ready for summer..

A combination of the clocks going back (meaning it’s now light when I leave the studio), and the little taster of sunshine we’ve been enjoying, have got me pining for the summer time. Since the weather hasn’t been cooperating, I haven’t really even begun to start thinking about my SS13 shopping, but since I’ve got a holiday booked already, I can’t help lusting after summery clothes. I’ve noticed some really nice pieces lately on the high street. And with a lot of trends towards 50/60s silhouettes, there’s so much that I want at the moment! In particular I’ve noticed some great pieces in French Connection. From floral printed sundresses with billowing skirts paired with brogues and shades, to peter pan collared blouses, chambray shirt dresses and macaroon coloured knitwear: I’m sold!

French Connection are one of those brands that in my mind is always synonymous with classic shapes, nice fabrics and well cut garments. A lot of their collections aren’t the kind of pieces that date easily. They’re the kind of items that you can buy and re-wear for years, and so don’t mind spending a little bit extra on. From the Spring/Summer 13 collection I’ve got my eye on two of the shirt dresses: the floral shirt dress and chambray shirt dress. They’re both slightly longer hemlines than I usually go for, (being a little on the short side I prefer to things just above my knees), but I love the shape of the skirts. Plus they’re the perfect shape and length to pair with brogues or strappy sandals, making them easy to dress up or down. Now I just need the weather to hold out…
