Hey guess what? I've got a website. Not this one, obviously. A new one (which you can find here, if you fancy a nosey). Maybe you've heard on my other social channels, where a share a little more about my freelance life. But maybe not. So I thought why not tell you?
For the last 16 months, I've been keeping my blogging life and freelance one fairly separate. Not really for much reason except that it felt nicer to have a distinction between work work and blog work. And to keep blogging feel more like a bit of fun still, I guess. But this week has been crazy, and after an emotional day watching one of my clients shave off her 40 inch hair (and seeing it later broadcast on the BBC), has got me wondering about whether I should be telling you a bit more about my freelance life.
Sure it's a bit less glamorous than my blogger life. There's not as many free trips to Italy and it's more about saving for tax bills and considering the benefits of long-term car leases. But it's not all boring stuff. This week alone, I've got to present a workshop and lecture to 50 people I didn't know, wrote client briefs for exciting new projects and shot a couple hours worth of footage of dogs having temper tantrums about being asked to leave My Pet HQ. So I promise, if we start talking more about this stuff, then I swear I'll keep it interesting!
Maybe there's not a space for it on here, I'm not really sure myself right now. But what I do know is that I'd like to share more about the realities of my freelance life in case any of you lot are thinking of taking the plunge and want to know what it's really like on the other side. And mainly because I'm sick of all those articles from freelancers who pretend to breeze through life like they're not really having to try. Because honestly, it is serious graft and it's not all sunshine, coffee and client meetings. But I promise when we do touch on the real stuff, like late payments or when you're really waiting on a client to pay their invoice, we'll keep it light!
I had no idea you were freelance too! your right, life isnt all sunshine and rainbows! although sometimes we can pretend right! lol
